Vidyut gets 4,64,144 votes, JMMs Niroop Mohanty gets 1,38,109 votes
Jamshedpur: Bharatiya Janata Partys(BJPs) Vidyut Varan Mahato emerged victorious in the Lok Sabha battle at Jamshedpur seat by securing 4,64,144 votes. His closest rival, Dr Ajoy Kumar, a second-time MP aspirant from Jamshedpur, got 3,64,270 votes. The third position was secured by Jharkhand Mukti Morchas Niroop Mohanty who fetched 1,38, 109 votes.
The fourth position was secured by none of the 12 other candidates as NOTA (none of the above) votes usurped this position by adding up to 15,629. Amra Bangalis Angad Mahato secured 12,632 votes.
The results were declared by the deputy commissioner-cum-district returning officer of East Singhbhum, Dr Amitabh Kaushal, at the counting venue at Jamshedpur Cooperative College where counting began at 8 am.
Although having secured a sizeable fraction of total polled votes, Dr Ajoy Kumar got defeated as a result of what poll pundits call the Modi wave or Modi effect which swept through the country in todays poll results. Dr Ajoy had yesterday declared his desire to leave Jamshedpur if he faces defeat.
A former IPS officer, he remained the MP of Jamshedpur for around two and a half year. Niroop Mohanty was being seen only as a third place candidate in the poll right from the beginning of election given the Modi wave and past performance of Dr Ajoy Kumar.
