Ranchi: BJP’s Ram Tahal Choudhary regained the Ranchi seat, defeating former Union Minister and sitting Congress MP Subodh Kant Sahay by 1,99,303 votes. Barring Sahay, all others lost deposit from Ranchi seat, Returning Officer V K Choubey said.
Choudhary secured 448729 votes while his close rival got 249426 votes. All Jharkhand Students� Union candidate Sudesh Mahato was at third position with 142560 votes in his favour.
Enthused by the thumping victory of the party candidate, BJP activists and supporters burst firecrackers and distributed sweets at the state BJP headquarters following the declaration of poll results. Party workers literally ruled the streets beating drums and smearing gulals on each other. A large TV screen was mounted at the party office for giving latest updates of counting.
Ram Tahal Choudhary redeemed the Ranchi Parliamentary seat after 10 years. His win came as a great booster to party revelers who celebrated right from the counting venue at Pandara to Albert Ekka Chowk. Party workers also took out victory procession in Silli, Ichagarh, Hatia, Ratu, Nagri, Namkum, Khijri, Kanke, HEC and other localities.
In view of victory anticipation, the state BJP office was adorned in a grand way with large cutouts of party founders and leaders. Party had especially ordered 10 quintals of laddoos for distribution after declaration of victory.
