BJP used ED to put Hemant in jail: Jharkhand CM Champai Soren

Foundation stone of Rs 456 Cr pipeline irrigation project laid

Ranchi, February 10: Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren on Saturday alleged that the BJP had been “attempting to topple” the Hemant Soren government ever since it came to power in the state in 2019.

He claimed that when the opposition party in the state failed in its attempts, it used central agencies to put Hemant Soren in jail.

Former chief minister Hemant Soren was arrested by Enforcement Directorate on January 31 night after questioning and he resigned the same day before Governor.

Addressing a public gathering in Palamu after laying the foundation for an irrigation project, the CM said, “The previous double-engine government had no democratic values. This could be understood from the case of former chief minister Hemant Soren. They (BJP) made attempts to topple the Hemant Soren government ever since it came to power in 2019. When they failed, they used ED and put the former CM in jail.” He claimed that not only Jharkhand, but all non-BJP-ruled states are also facing similar problems.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren on Saturday laid the foundation stone for an irrigation project worth Rs 456.62 crore, which will benefit the people of 96 villages in Palamu district.

Addressing a gathering at Shivaji ground in Daltonganj, Soren said the Palamu region is a rain shadow area, and the project will help meet water demand in the district.

“Earlier governments in the state were aware of the fact that the Palamu region is a rain shadow zone but no one has worked for a concrete solution for irrigation and drinking water for the people in the area,” he said.

The Palamu Pipeline Irrigation project aims at bringing water from three rivers of the district through underground pipelines to feed various reservoirs to meet the demand for drinking and irrigation, Soren said.

The project, which is expected to be completed in two years, will benefit the people of 96 villages in Chainpur, Medininagar, Satbarwa, Vishrampur, Chhatarpur, Hussainabad, Hydernagar, Mohammadganj blocks.
