Jamshedpur: Mahila Morcha wing of Bharatiya Janata Party celebrated Makar Sankranti in advance with the inmates of the Old Age Home at Baradwari on Monday.
They spent time with the inmates and distributed chura-gud, tilkut and other delicacies among them. The chief guest of the programme was the state Food Supply Minister Saryu Rai. He was accompanied by the district BJP president Dinesh Kumar.
Speaking on the occasion, Rai said that the festival of Makar Sankranti was a celebration of sun worshipping culture. The festival is a unique combination of spirituality, culture and astronomy, he said. He praised the Mahila Morcha members for starting a good tradition by celebrating the festival with the Old Age Home inmates. He said that more and more people should celebrate the festival.
The BJP president said that sending aged people to Old Age Home put a question mark on the culture being followed by today�s generation. He said the people should think twice before committing this sin. He said that the state government and the BJP were doing every bit to bring some light in the lives of aged and homeless people through various welfare schemes.
Among others present during the programme included Neeru Singh, Shikha Rai Choudhary, Pushpa Tirkey, Ankit Anand, Ram Dulari, Seema Das, Geeta Singh, Laxmi Singh, Laxmi Yadav and Laxmi Mirdha.
