Jamshedpur, May 11: Unidentified assailants shot dead Hopan Hembram, 35, a BJP leader, in Parsudih on Saturday on the eve of polling in Jamshedpur constituency.

Sources said Hembram, vice president of BJP ST Morcha in Parsudih, was coming out of the football ground in Kaliadih when the assailants pumped six bullets into his body.

Police said there were two assailants who rode a motorcycle. The assailants intercepted Hembram on his way home and opened fire from close range. Hembram was taken to Tata Main Hospital where he was pronounced brought dead.

Many BJP leaders rushed to the hospital after learning about the incident. They condemned the incident and demanded speedy police action into the killing.
