BJP candidate Ram Tahal complains of foul play at Khelgaon

Ranchi: Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Ranchi Lok Sabha constituency Ram Tahal Choudhary today stirred the political corridors in the state by alleging that a conspiracy was on to influence the results of the recently-concluded Lok Sabha polls by his opponents.

Choudhary said the conspiracy was exposed when electronic voting machines (EVMs) were taken to Khelgaon instead of being taken to the strong room set up for the purpose. He also alleged that the EVMs were taken to Khelgaon in the absence of security personnel.

Without taking names, Choudhary said, activists of few political parties were there with the polling staff when the EVMs were being taken to Khelgaon.

The block development officer of Angarha Deep Mala brought EVMs in a vehicle to Khelgaon in the absence of security guards. When she was asked reason for bringing the EVMs, she said the DC had ordered it. When suspicion grew stronger, police charged the BJP activists with cane. Many activists were injured in the incident. I was also beaten up severely. Many vehicles were also vandalized. We somehow ran to save our lives, he said.

The BJP leader said the bringing of EVMs of polling booths numbering from 186 to 190 to the strong room at noon was a suspicious act. The EVMs of 280 booths, he said, were brought on 17th April late in the night in the absence of security guards.

Choudhary said all EVMs should have been brought in tight police custody. He said he had written to the DC of Ranchi Vinay Choubey to ensure tight security arrangements during polls and transportation of EVMs.

The BJP leader alleged that cash had been distributed in Ranchi in each of the villages during polls. He said Congress and AJSU leaders had distributed huge cash on the night of 16th April. He said the administration should install CCTV cameras and generator on the day of counting of votes.
