BJP banks on Modi mania to woo urban voters

Jamshedpur: BJP is banking more on the Modi mania to woo voters of Jamshedpur East and West the two assembly segments of the Jamshedpur Lok Sabha constituency.

According to information, realising the fact that Vidyut Baran Mahto is the new entrant to the saffron brigade, the poll pundits of BJP have advised Mahto to focus his campaigning more in the rural areas, while in the city the other senior leaders including Saryu Roy has taken over the charge.

Sources informed that BJPs prime ministerial candidate is in the forefront to gain maximum advantage in urban pockets. In comparison with JVM counterpart Ajoy Kumar and JMMs Niroop Mahanty, Mahto is lesser figure amongst the urban voters of Jamshedpur.

We are relying on popularity of NaMo to woo voters in the urbans areas of East and West Jamshedpur. While Mahto has been asked to devote time in rural areas to connect with the tribal sentiments, said a BJP district functionary.

Opining similar sentiments senior BJP leader Saryu Roy said that the party has been able to revolutionise people in favour of Modi. There is a Modi wave in Jamshedpur and the party has an edge in the city.

Anil Modi district spokesperson informed that Mahto is focusing more on rural segments of Potka, Bahragora, Ghatshila and Jugsalai. He is well known in the rural areas and his stint as a JMM MLA from Bahragora has also left a mark on the voters. He enjoys good rapport in villages. He also informed that Narendra Modi is also expected to address a public meeting in Jamshedpur on April 11 or 12.

We are working as a team. Mahto is leading campaign in rural areas while other senior leaders are on door-to-door campaign in Jamshedpur, noted another BJP district unit functionary said on condition of anonymity. He said that the response in the city has been overwhelming.

However, BJP district president Rajkumar Srivastav claimed Mahto is a localite and not an outsider like Dr Ajoy Kumar who hails from Bangalore. Kumar will leave Jamshedpur once he loses.

Voters too expressed similar sentiments. It matters little who the candidate is from Jamshedpur. I am going to vote for Modi because we want a strong Prime Minister to represent our country, said Sushila Khirwal a homemaker.
