Jamshedpur, June 1: A press conference was organized by the East Singhbhum District Congress Committee, where former Union Minister Subodh Kant Sahay, Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee Working President Shahzada Anwar, and District Congress President Anand Bihari Dubey addressed the media.
Subodh Kant Sahay alleged that the BJP’s demand for 400 Lok Sabha seats was driven by intent to alter the Constitution. He said the people of India rejected this plan by denying the BJP a sweeping mandate. He further accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of insulting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in Parliament.
Sahay also credited Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for consistently advocating for a nationwide caste census, both in Parliament and on the streets. He stated that although the BJP government eventually approved the caste census, its intention was not to ensure justice for SC, ST, OBC, minorities, and the economically backward, but rather to avoid it. The inclusion of Sarna religion code, significant for tribal identity, was deliberately overlooked by the BJP, he claimed.
He emphasized that the Congress party was launching a nationwide ‘Save Constitution Rally’, extending down to district, block, panchayat, and village levels to raise public awareness about threats to the Constitution under the BJP-led central government.
Sahay also criticized the BJP’s decision on demonetization, calling it a major policy failure, and expressed disappointment over the sudden announcement of a ceasefire after Operation Sindoor, which he said undermined the efforts of India’s forces.
State Congress leader Shahzada Anwar alleged that the BJP government was systematically weakening constitutional institutions and making arbitrary decisions, including those related to the Waqf Board. He called upon the people of Jharkhand and the country to remain vigilant.
Prominent Congress members including Rakesh Sahu, Sanjeev Srivastava, Salim Khan, Brijendra Tiwari, Sanjay Singh Azad, Arun Singh, Amit Srivastava, and Sunny Singh were also present during the press conference.
