Jamshedpur: Vehicular movement on National Highway 33 on Ghatshila- Bahragora link came to a standstill for more than two hours on Thursday as BJP workers led by senior leader Dineshanand Goswami blocked the link to protest against its shabby condition.
The agitation began at 10 am as party activists led by Goswami squatted on the NH-33 at Ghatshila Phoolgundri Chowk. The agitators raised slogans against the government for its failure to repair the NH-33 which has turned a death trap.
The former State BJP president expressed dismay over the delay in commencement of construction work. The people were facing problems due to poor condition of the highway. He said the road should be repaired as soon as possible. He demanded that necessary initiatives should be taken to ensure proper repair of the NH between Ranchi and Bahragora, at the earliest.
Meanwhile, numerous cars, trucks, trailers and two-wheelers lined up on either side of the blockade site as party supporters and people alike raised slogans against government apathy towards the highway.
Amit Kumar, SDO, Ghatshila, reached the spot and assured the agitators that steps would be taken to ensure that the NH 33 is repaired at the earliest.
