Birsanagar PM Awas Beneficiaries to Get House Keys on Friday

Jamshedpur: Owners of the Birsanagar PM Awas Yojana will move into their flats on Friday, June 19. While this development has brought cheer among the residents, the delay in completion of their houses has caused immense hardship for them.

Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy extended his best wishes in advance to the beneficiaries who will get possession of their flats, and remarked that the Birsanagar PM Awas scheme has been mired in controversies since its inception. The project was not planned properly, and its foundation stone was laid in a state of chaos in 2018. At the time of laying the foundation, no one took into account that there was a 30-foot height differential from one end of the allotted land to the other. Had this 30-foot gradient been levelled, it would have turned into a beautiful residential complex.

Displacement and Delayed Execution

Saryu Roy pointed out that during the initial phase of the scheme, no consideration was given to the fact that 160 houses would be partially or completely demolished as a result.

“160 houses built in the vicinity were indiscriminately demolished. This PM Awas has been built on the graves of citizens’ residential properties. As a result, its structural issues have not been rectified to this day,” Roy stated.

He added that when he became the MLA of Jamshedpur East in 2019, his first priority was to reconstruct those 160 houses that had been demolished in the name of building the PM Awas complex.

Roy further noted that out of the 22 blocks planned for the PM Awas project, only two are currently ready. These flats should have been handed over to the people at least three years ago. The beneficiaries had to face immense hardships just to get possession of their own flats.

Pending Infrastructure and Amenities

The MLA warned that when the beneficiaries finally move into their flats, they will realize the numerous shortcomings in its construction.

  • No drainage system: Proper sewage and wastewater disposal systems have not been set up.
  • Non-functional lifts: The lifts are currently just for show.
  • Incomplete work: A significant amount of work is still pending.

He expressed hope that the government would look into this, adding that they, too, would exert pressure.

Call to Action

“The implementation of a scheme born out of a half-baked mindset meets the exact fate that this PM Awas project has suffered,” Roy said. He urged the government to ensure that the work on this project is fully completed before laying the foundation stone for any new scheme. He assured the beneficiaries that he would always be ready to resolve any difficulties they face at a personal level.
