Birsa Munda All India FIDE Rating Chess Tournament in Gamharia from October 26

Jamshedpur: The first-ever Birsa Munda All India Open FIDE Rapid and Blitz Rating Chess Competition will take place on October 26-27 in Gamharia, organized by the Seraikela-Kharsawan District Chess Association. The competition will feature prominent chess players, including Grand Masters Mitra Guha and Shaptashree from Bengal, and International Master Neeraj Kumar Mishra. Around 300 players are expected to participate.

The total prize money for the tournament is ₹3 lakh, with ₹2 lakh allocated for the Rapid category and ₹1 lakh for the Blitz category. This competition marks the first time a rapid and blitz rating chess tournament will be held in the name of tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda.

A meeting was held on Tuesday to discuss the competition’s organization, attended by District Chess Association members, including Patron Nand Kumar, President Manoj Kumar, Vice President Shailendra Kumar, and Secretary Ajay Kumar. The competition aims to prepare players for a national-level Blitz and Rapid tournament scheduled to be held in Jharkhand in February next year. It will help participants gain experience playing against top players in these formats.

The event will be inaugurated by Seraikela-Kharsawan Deputy Commissioner Ravi Shankar Shukla.
