Jamshedpur, May 24: The court of Additional District Judge-13 Prabhakar Kumar sentenced convict of Khemlata Devi murder case to life imprisonment on Thursday. Offender Binay Kumar alias Binu, son of Sitaram Sahu, a resident of Naya Line in Sonari under Sonari police station was booked under section 302 and 201 of IPC.
ADJ also slapped a penalty of Rs 20000 on the convict. If the convict fails to pay the penalty, then he would face six months additional jail term. This was informed by Assistant public prosecutor on Thursday.
The court pronounced life term one year 329 days after the murder of Khemlata Devi, wife of Tata Steel employee Kartik Ram. Binay Kumar was later sent to jail. Khemlata, a housewife, was murdered brutally at her residence on Tansa Road under Kadma police station area late on June 28, 2016 night.
Police launched massive hunt to nab the culprit where and was arrested from his Sonari residence on July 20, 2016.
Forensic team collected samples and on the basis of DNA report and the mobile phone of the culprit, Binay Kumar was found guilty.
The police recovered a Samsung Galaxy mobile phone of the deceased, which was used by the accused and a blood stained jeans pant which the accused was wearing during the incident night.
According to the then Jamshedpur SSP Anoop T Mathew, the accused Binay admitted that he was regular visitor at Khemlata’s residence and on June 28 he went to her Quarter No. 80 house at around 2 p.m. and after having biscuit both of them went inside another room where they had an altercation. Following this, the accused Vinay took the vegetable knife from the tray and attacked Khemlata’s neck and stomach and killed her.
Mathew added, “From there Vinay went to his house in Soanri taking with him two mobile phones of Khemlata. The next day accused Vinay took his sister’s scooty and went to Toll Bridge from where he threw one of the mobile phones and the knife into the sewer and kept one of the expensive Samsung Galaxy mobile phone for his personal use. Vinay threw the jeans trouser in the bushes at Beldih Golf Club premises”.
Significantly, after Khemlata Devi was stabbed to death at her residence she was rushed to Tata Main Hospital’s emergency by her husband Kartik Ram, a Tata Steel employee.
The victim was declared as brought dead. The incident of the woman’s murder was discovered by Kartik who returned home from his B-shift duty at about 10.30 p.m. and subsequently rushed the body to the Tata Main Hospital by 10.50 p.m.
