Bihar to get Amrit Bharat Express and Namo Bharat rapid rail services

New Delhi, Apr 21: Bihar is set to emerge as a key hub in India’s modern railway transformation, with the addition of Amrit Bharat Express and Namo Bharat Rapid Rail services. These two state-of-the-art trains will join the already operational Vande Bharat Express, establishing Bihar as the confluence of Indian Railways’ “modern trinity,” as described by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Namo Bharat Rapid Rail, aimed at redefining short-distance intercity travel, will soon begin operations between Jaynagar and Patna. This will be the second Namo Bharat service in India, after the Ahmedabad–Bhuj route. Unlike its predecessor with 12 AC coaches, this train will feature 16 coaches, capable of carrying over 2,000 passengers. Built under the “Make in India” initiative, the train includes world-class features such as Kavach safety technology, CCTV surveillance, vacuum toilets, ergonomically designed seats, charging ports, digital route indicators and automatic doors.

Meanwhile, the Amrit Bharat Express will connect Saharsa to Lokmanya Tilak Terminus in Mumbai. This will be the third Amrit Bharat train in India after those from Darbhanga and Malda. Though non-AC, the train is equipped with several modern amenities including foldable snack tables, mobile and bottle holders, airplane-style illuminated floor strips, fire detection systems and spring suspension for smoother travel. Built for speeds up to 130 km/h, it uses push-pull technology to allow movement in both directions without engine reversal.

Additionally, Bihar will benefit from new railway lines including Supaul–Pipra, Khagaria–Alauli and Hasanpur–Bithan. Passenger trains will begin services on these routes, improving connectivity, especially for North Bihar and the Mithila region. These advancements mark a significant leap in Bihar’s railway development and overall infrastructure progress.
