Beldih Club GM dies in road mishap, body to arrive in city today

Jamshedpur, May 18: Beldih Club’s general manager Abhishek Banerjee (38) and his friend Shantanu Chakraborty�s wife Shrabani Chakraborty (31) were killed in a road mishap after the SUV by which they were travelling fell into a 30-feet deep gorge at Manali in Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday morning.

In the mishap, five others, including the driver of the SUV and two boys were injured, but all of them are now stated to be out of danger.

The injured Shantanu (43), his son Satyam (12), Abhishek’s wife Monalisa (36) and son Mritunjay (12) and the SUV driver Tarun Kumar (42) were treated in a local hospital in Manali, from where all except Shantanu were released on Wednesday.

The mishap took place as the victims were on their way to Nainital in Uttarakhand from Manali where they had spent a couple of days after returning from Kullu.

Abhishek’s brother-in-law Sanjiv Acharya, a resident of Kadma, said the bodies will be brought to the steel city on Thursday. They started their trip from the city on May 11. The two families were scheduled to return to Jamshedpur by May 25.

Son of C D Banerjee, retired chief engineer of Tata Steel’s West Bokaro division, Abhishek had joined Beldih Club in the year 2009.

A resident of KF-4 flat at Dhatkidih in Bistupur, Abhishek reportedly sustained fatal head injuries and had died on the spot.
