Jamshedpur, March 15: As seasonal diseases afflict residents of Jamshedpur, patients seeking treatment for fever, cold, body ache, and diarrhea are facing difficulties due to shortage of beds in the emergency ward of MGM Hospital. On Thursday, the 55-bed emergency ward was overcrowded, with not even standing space available. Nine patients were accommodated on stretchers, while others received treatment sitting on wheelchairs or in the verandah due to lack of space.
More than 700 slips were issued for the Outpatient Department (OPD), with over 175 patients seeking treatment for seasonal ailments. Despite the continuous inflow of viral patients, the shortage of beds persisted throughout the day.
Hospital Superintendent Dr. Ravindra Kumar attributed the surge in patients to changing weather conditions. While efforts were being made to provide medication, the hospital was grappling with a shortage of beds, with even the medicine ward exceeding its capacity.
Meanwhile, repair work on air conditioning units had commenced at MGM Hospital, beginning with the administrative office and burn ward. Plans are in place to extend repairs to other departments, with department heads and doctors instructed to provide reports on conditions of ACs.
Efforts were also underway to repair all fans in the hospital wards, ensuring patient comfort amidst rising temperatures.
