Jamshedpur: Political activity has intensified across the state ahead of the upcoming Jharkhand State Bar Council elections, with voting scheduled for March 12. A total of around 100 candidates are contesting in the polls.
Advocate Manoj Kumar of the Jharkhand High Court said that senior advocates had earlier held discussions with the government on four key issues related to the welfare and development of advocates. He noted that he was also part of the delegation that participated in the talks. According to him, the government accepted the proposals and implemented several measures for lawyers across the state.
These initiatives include medical insurance for all advocates in Jharkhand, a stipend scheme for new lawyers, a pension scheme and the construction of bar buildings in every district. Construction work for bar buildings has already begun in 11 districts, he said.
Manoj Kumar stated that his primary objective in contesting the Bar Council election is to ensure the completion of pending initiatives. He pointed out that the Bar Council in Ranchi does not yet have its own building and he would work towards establishing one with proper accommodation facilities for advocates visiting from distant places.
He also said efforts would be made to revise the current pension scheme, which provides benefits for only 10 years and push for a lifelong pension for advocates. In addition, he proposed working with the government to implement an Advocate Protection Act in the state. (w-nkm)
