Ranchi: Congress MLA from Jamshedpur West Banna Gupta will take oath as a minister of the state Cabinet tomorrow at a function in Raj Bhavan.

The function will start at 7 pm. Jharkhand governor Dr Syed Ahmad will administer oath to the legislator. Chief Minister Hemant Soren sent his recommendation to the governor regarding the Cabinet decision to appoint Gupta as minister yesterday.

In the absence of the governor, who was in New Delhi, the oath taking ceremony could not take place. Gupta is being appointed minister in place of former agriculture minister Yogendra Sao who quit his post following allegations of having links with Naxalites.

Meanwhile, state Congress leaders today rubbished allegations of BJP leaders against Banna Gupta. The BJP leaders had alleged yesterday that Gupta was a tainted legislator with several cases lodged against him in extortion, power theft and other cases.

Congress secretary Lal Kishore Nath Shahdeo said the BJP leaders were leveling baseless allegations against Gupta. They said the BJP leaders were frustrated by the growing popularity of Banna Gupta.
