Ranchi: Congress MLA from Jamshedpur West Banna Gupta today took oath as the state Cabinet minister in the state Capital.
The oath taking ceremony was organized in the Raj Bhavan in the evening. Jharkhand governor Dr Syed Ahmad administered the oath of office to Gupta in the presence of state bureaucrats and other dignitaries.
A large number of Congress members and supporters of Gupta were present on the occasion. The family members of the legislator were also present during the oath taking ceremony.
With Gupta’s coronation as a Cabinet minister in place of former agriculture minister Yogendra Sao, a total of five Congress legislators have secured ministerial berth in the state Cabinet so far. Other four ministers include Rajendra Prasad Singh, Geetashree Oraon, Mannan Mallick and KN Tripathy.
It may be mentioned here that former agriculture minister Yogendra Sao had to relinquish his ministerial berth after being accused of having links with Naxalites owing allegiance to Jharkhand Tigers Group.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren was under pressure to remove Sao who himself resigned from the post. Banna faces allegations of power theft, land usurpation and extortion leveled by BJP leaders of the state. The BJP leaders were protesting his appointment as minister.
