Protest against lack of civic amenities

: Congress MLA Banna Gupta on Monday sat on fast-unto-death agitation in protest against lack of civic amenities in areas under Jamshedpur West from where he is an elected representative.

Along with hundreds party workers the Congress leader squatted at Sonari and raised slogans against the civic bodies.
The Congress leader has launched the stir in favour of demands that include supply of electricity through better conductors, setting up of Baliguma sub-station and construction of an electric crematorium at Sonari.

The Congress leader had undertaken an indefinite fast agitation inside Jharkhand State Electricity Board (JSEB) Singhbhum supply area general manager O.P. Ambaste’s chamber in Bistupur on April 28, 2012 and had called off the strike on April 29 afternoon after assurance.

He said that Jharkhand State Electricity Board ( JSEB) authorities had assured him to improve power supply in areas like Mango, Sonari and Kadma within the next fortnight. Though the general manager gave him in writing but the situation is still pathetic.

“I had given an ultimatum to JSEB, Mango Notified Area Committee and Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee. The welfare of the people is his first and only priority and he will fight for it,” he noted.

Meanwhile Banna went on to add that though MNAC is in existence ever since 1975 but the development of Mango areas have been far from satisfactory. The authorities have never paid heed to the problems of minorities.

During the rainy season the roads turned into that makes their life hell. The rain water enters in this trough formed due to lack of repairs and caused problems for the commuters. Many two-wheelers had met with an accident in the area, especially at night, for not being able to anticipate the problem.

The MLA also expressed concern with the East Singhbhum district administration failed to get clearance from Tata Steel for a plot of land near Fagu Baba locality in Sonari to set up an electric crematorium.

The MLA said that the government has in its power to get back the land from Tata Steel lease as the demand is of a public interest.

Presiding the agitation, Senior Congress leader SRA Rizwi Chabban said that administration must taken immediate steps to address woes of the people.

He said that Congress was forced to start an agitation as often residents come up with complaints against JSEB power supply.
