Banna Gupta criticizes Saryu Roy, calls him a “Fugitive in Politics”

Jamshedpur: In a scathing attack on his opponent, alliance candidate from Jamshedpur West, Banna Gupta, criticized fellow candidate Saryu Roy, labeling him a “fugitive in politics” and accusing him of using government documents to mislead the public. Addressing the media, Gupta, who emphasizes a politics of “solutions and suggestions,” drew sharp contrasts between his own development-focused agenda and what he calls Roy’s “negative politics.”

Gupta highlighted the ideological rifts between Roy and his past political affiliations, calling out Roy for benefiting from his association with the ruling party while simultaneously trying to displace it. “There is a limit in politics,” Gupta stated, accusing Roy of being power-hungry and lacking consistency in political alliances, much like Bihar’s Nitish Kumar. “Now the time has come to bid farewell to this fugitive leader,” Gupta added.

Referring to the upcoming elections, which coincide with Diwali and Chhath festivities, Gupta urged Jamshedpur West’s voters to cast their ballots with a sense of purpose and pride, likening each vote to a Diwali lamp dispelling darkness. He appealed especially to the youth, emphasizing employment and development, as well as to local families who, he said, should be able to enjoy festivals like Chhath at Domukhani Sangam Ghat with greater amenities and safety.

Gupta also highlighted specific projects he’s undertaken, such as constructing natural filter pits and improving access to the Swarnarekha riverbank to manage pollution more effectively. Gupta contrasted his approach with Roy’s, accusing Roy of raising issues, like river pollution, without offering concrete solutions. “When I go to Sangam, I work on preventing drainage water from polluting the river. I have built a gate, stairs, and created a natural filter to benefit devotees during festivals.”

Citing an incident where Roy allegedly criticized retired medical professionals in the assembly, Gupta claimed that Roy has a pattern of targeting respected figures and institutions without justification. “Saryu Roy only finds shortcomings in others,” Gupta said, describing Roy’s approach as a “politics of complaints.”

In his campaign efforts, Gupta recently conducted a padyatra through Dhatkidih, Sonari, and Mango, accompanied by his supporters and allies from the Congress-JMM-RJD coalition. The padyatra attracted enthusiastic support from local residents, many of whom noted improvements in roads and infrastructure during Gupta’s tenure as MLA.
