Mail News Service

Jamshedpur, July 7: The bank accounts of Chakradharpur Nagar Parishad have been frozen by Axis Bank and Canara Bank in Chakradharpur.

Sources said Axis Bank has frozen Rs 1.25 crore while Canara Bank has frozen Rs 24.1 lakh. This has put the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and other development projects under hold.

Sources maintained that the matter came to light when the Joint Secretary of Urban Development Department Arun Kumar Ratan held a review meeting at Chakradharpur Nagar Parishad office two days ago. On coming to know about the freezing of accounts, the Joint Secretary summoned the branch managers and sought an explanation. He also asked them to release the funds.

Sources said the bank accounts were frozen on the order of Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO), Jamshedpur. The freezing was ordered due to PF dues of Nagar Parishad employees.
