Bajrang Dal disrupts registry office marriage amidst ‘love jihad’ controversy

Dhanbad, Oct 18: A case involving the alleged “love jihad” has surfaced in Dhanbad, where a Hindu girl fled from Jamshedpur to marry her lover of a different religion at the Dhanbad registry office. Bajrang Dal activists, who were already present at the scene, intercepted the couple and subjected the Muslim youth to a severe beating. Subsequently, the Bajrang Dal members handed both individuals over to the Dhanbad Mahila Police Station. This incident has garnered significant attention in the area.

According to reports, a young man named Sohail Khan, a resident of Dhanbad’s Bhooli East Basuria, had been in a romantic relationship with a girl from Jamshedpur for several months. Today, they were scheduled to marry at the Dhanbad registry office. However, upon receiving information from the Jamshedpur Bajrang Dal, their Dhanbad counterparts intercepted the couple near the registry office and subjected the young man to a severe beating. Following this, both were transferred to the women’s police station, where the police have summoned the family members of both parties to discuss further actions.

Lalu Tiwari, the Dhanbad Bajrang Dal District President, disclosed that the girl had been reported missing from Bistupur in Jamshedpur for the past 10 days. Allegations suggest that Sohail Khan, a Dhanbad resident, intended to marry the young woman. In response to this information, Bajrang Dal members in Dhanbad detained both individuals near the registry office, with the girl wearing a burkha at the time. Both have been arrested and handed over to the police. Additionally, concerns have been raised about potential forced religious conversion, emphasizing the need for increased government attention and more stringent laws.
