Jamshedpur: A delegation of Bagbera panchayat committee members and public representatives of Jamshedpur have demanded stern action against those guilty of carrying out fatal assault on Shravan Mishra and Manoj Jha, both local residents.
In a meeting with the senior superintendent of police (SSP) Anoop T Mathew on Sunday, the delegation members alleged that several people assaulted Mishra and Jha in the presence of police at Bagbera police station on Saturday last.
The incident took place around 4.30 pm when Mishra and Jha, husbands of local Panchayat committee members Jharna Mishra and Ritu Jha respectively, were allegedly assaulted by Babamuni Hembram, the Mukhiya of Bagbera Middle Panchayat and her 10 supporters over some local issue.
Both Mishra and Jha were badly injured in the assault. The former however got critical. He was sent to Tata Main Hospital where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.
His condition is reportedly critical.
The delegation that met the SSP today was led by the deputy head of Jamshedpur block Afzal Akhtar.
He demanded police security for Jharna Mishra and Ritu Jha and speedy arrest of the accused persons. He said the panchayat committee members will tender mass resignation in case their demands are not fulfilled.
The SSP assured the delegation of a fair probe into the incident. He entrusted DSP Vimal Kumar with the task of conducting the probe. He said the culprits will not be spared in any condition.
