Awareness drive on Uranium mining launched

Jadugoda: Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL) has launched an awareness drive in schools run by it on uranium mining and its benefits. The campaign started off in Kendriya Vidyalaya, Surda, on Wednesday.

A function was organized on the school premises. The students were informed nuclear energy sources, its importance and the significance of uranium mines.

School officials said the students from class VIII to class X took part in the programme.

The assistant superintendent (geology) S Tripathy and IPRD officer Stalin Hembram informed children that the uranium radiation in mines was negligible.

Later, a quiz competition was also held on uranium awareness for the students. Mementoes were given to the students by the company officials.
