Farmer’s daughter Atushi Mishra tops Jamshedpur in JAC Class 12 Science, secures fifth rank in Jharkhand

JAC Class 12 Science: Patamda girl secures fifth rank in Jharkhand, aspires to study computer science from IIT Bombay

Jamshedpur: In a heartwarming tale of determination and grit, 18-year-old Atushi Mishra from Gopalpur village under the remote Patamda block of Jamshedpur has brought immense pride to her family, school, and the entire district by securing an outstanding 94.8% in the Jharkhand Academic Council’s (JAC) 2025 Class 12 examination — the highest in the East Singhbhum district.

The results were declared earlier this week, and since then, Atushi’s modest home in Gopalpur has seen a steady stream of well-wishers, neighbours, and schoolmates congratulating the humble girl who has now become a beacon of inspiration for thousands of rural students.

Atushi comes from a simple background. Her father, Indrajit Mishra, is a small-scale farmer who works hard in the fields, and her mother, Kalpana Mishra, is a homemaker. Despite financial constraints, the family prioritized education. Atushi studied at the Plus Two Adivasi School in Bangurda, where she had earlier scored 94.8% in her Class 10 board exams — a strong indication of her academic potential.

Atushi credited her success to consistent hard work, disciplined study habits, and the unwavering support of her family and teachers. “I used to study for 4–5 hours every day after school and tuition. I believe there is no difference between city and village students if one has dedication. Hard work is the only key to success,” she said, her eyes sparkling with quiet confidence.

Atushi’s subject-wise performance in Class 12 showcases her balanced grasp across disciplines: English – 88, Physics – 95, Chemistry – 95, Mathematics – 95, IT – 99 and Hindi – 85.

Her academic interests lean heavily toward science and technology, and she now aspires to pursue Computer Science at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay. “My dream is to become a computer scientist and make meaningful contributions to the country in the tech sector,” she said.

Her parents reflect on a touching transformation. “As a child, Atushi was quite reluctant to go to school,” her mother Kalpana recalls with a smile. “But gradually, she developed an interest and now she sits down to study on her own, without being told.”

Her father, Indrajit, adds with emotion, “We did whatever we could, despite our limitations, to make sure our daughter could study. Today, her success feels like the biggest reward of our lives.”

Atushi’s story stands as a powerful reminder that talent and determination know no boundaries. Her journey from the fields of Gopalpur to the top of the district merit list exemplifies the spirit of new India — where rural children, if given the right opportunities, can outshine even the best of urban institutions.

The teachers at Plus Two Adivasi School are proud of their student’s feat. “Atushi has always been bright, punctual, and curious. Her focus and humility make her stand out. She is an example for our entire school,” said one of her teachers.

Apart from academics, Atushi enjoys listening to music to relieve stress. She believes that a balanced routine and emotional health are also important factors in achieving one’s goals. Her success is not just hers; it is the success of every parent who dreams of educating their child, every teacher who nurtures rural talent, and every young girl who dares to dream big despite constraints.

This achievement marks another milestone for Adivasi Plus Two High School, Bangurda. Earlier, in the matriculation results announced on Tuesday, Bhumika Mishra and Shubham Kumar Patra from the same school jointly secured the fifth rank in the state and topped the Kolhan division. The school community is celebrating the back-to-back successes of its students, crediting their hard work and the guidance of dedicated teachers.
