Jamshedpur, April 02: About 5000 students on Sunday appeared in the JEE Mains conducted by Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) in various centres across the city.

A large number of students who are aiming for admissions into undergraduate engineering programmes in NITs, IIITs, other centrally funded technical institutions applied and appeared for the examination today.

The examination was held across nine centres comprising Jamshedpur Public School, Baridih, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Parsudih; Baldwin Farm Area High School, Kadma; St. Mary’s English High School, Bistupur; SDSM School for Excellence, Sidhgora; Vidya Bharati Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Telco, Govind Vidyalaya in Tamulia; DAV Public School, Bistupur and DAV Public School, Adityapur.

Students appearing at different centres were seen to be satisfied with the type of questions. The pattern of the paper was same as last year contained questions of four marks. The total marks was 360, which was same last year.

The question paper had 90 questions, 30 each in Physics, Chemistry and Maths. The exam across the centres kicked off
at 9:30 am and continued till 12:30 pm. The second half of the exam was meant for students aspiring for architecture.

CBSE will release JEE Mains 2016 official answer key on Apr 18. The results will be declared on April 27. Engineering seems to be the first career choice for students. Despite various career opportunities emerging in the field of education, engineering still rules the roost among the students of the city. The students feel that engineering
from premium institute that is Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is their only choice.

It may be mentioned here that the city has a fair track record of IIT. Every year more than 100 students crack the IIT entrance examination, which is considered to be toughest in the country. Moreover, Abhinav Kumar of Loyola School secured 1st All India rank during the 1996-1997.
