ASI accused of raping minor girl for a year, case registered

Ranchi, Nov 15: A minor girl from Sukhdevnagar police station area in Ranchi district has alleged that she was raped by an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the same police station for a year. The girl has lodged a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Jharkhand police against the accused ASI, identified as Neeraj Khosla. A case has been registered in the women’s police station based on the girl’s statement.

According to the girl’s statement, Khosla first raped her on the night of August 15, 2022, when she was alone at home. He threatened to kill her father and brother if she resisted or told anyone. He then continued to rape her every two-four days in the absence of her parents, who work as masons. He also took her nude photos and sent them to her mother, blackmailing them to keep quiet. The girl’s health deteriorated due to the repeated sexual abuse and she was sent to her aunt’s house in Nalanda, Bihar. There, she finally revealed her ordeal to her mother, who approached the CID for help.

The CID has recorded the girl’s statement and initiated a probe into the matter. The accused ASI is yet to be arrested. The Child Rights Foundation Secretary, Baijnath Kumar, condemned the incident and demanded the strictest action against the police officer. He said that children trust the police the most, but they are the ones exploiting them. He cited another recent case of a police officer involved in child abuse.
