Discuss ways to support artistes suffering from terminal illness

Jamshedpur, Aug 2: The city theatre artistes held a meeting at Bistupur Kala Mandir Auditorium this evening and discussed ways to provide financial support to artistes suffering from serious and terminal diseases. The meeting held under the banner of �Artistes� Welfare Trust� was presided by theatre thespian Hari Mittal.

Before commencement of the proceedings, the members observed two minutes� silence as a mark of respect for theatre activist Dr PC Pandey and popular theatre actor director of Ranchi Pranab Chowdhury who breathed their last yesterday.

The meeting discussed theatre person Chandan Kumar�s health condition and modalities for providing him financial assistance for his treatment. Chandan Singh is undergoing treatment for cancer affliction.

Speaking on the occasion, noted cultural activist Amitava Ghosh suggested various avenues of collecting funds for Chandan Singh and other artistes who require financial assistance for treatment of grave ailments including terminal diseases. A suggestion for organizing a charity show for fund raising was also discussed at the meeting.

A large number of theatre and cine artistes of the steel city were present during the meeting that included Ravi Kant Mishra, Md Nizam, Shatrughan Singh, Arpita Srivastav, Ajay Jha, Shivlal Sagar, Rakesh Pandey, Amit Das, Partho Bhattacharjee, Rajesh Singh, Vijay, Gautam Gope, Siddharta Sen and Sontu Banerjee.
