Jamshedpur: Premshila Murmu, the Kolhan president of Adivasi Sengel Mahila Morcha, who publicly declared her intention to self-immolate in front of the statue of Birsa Munda in Sakchi, has been apprehended by the police on Tuesday evening. The arrest operation was conducted by Parsudih police station in-charge Ram Kumar Verma, accompanied by women police officers. Subsequently, upon learning of the arrest, a substantial crowd of Sengel campaign supporters gathered outside the police station.
This development follows the earlier announcement by four activists of Adivasi Sengel Abhiyan, who declared their intent to commit suicide if Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not announce the recognition of the Sarna Code for tribals during his visit to Jharkhand. The police responded by taking action and arresting Chandra Mohan Mardi, Prithvi Murmu, Vikram Hembram, and Kanhuram Tudu. In protest against these arrests, people took to the streets on Tuesday, blocking the Tata-Hata road near Karandih. The situation remains tense as the community expresses its concerns through demonstrations and gatherings.
