Jamshedpur: A potentially dangerous situation in East Singhbhum district was averted after a 227-kg suspected explosive device recovered from the banks of the Subarnarekha river was successfully defused by a specialised team of the Indian Army on Wednesday.
The object had been found earlier in the Panipara area under Bahragora police station limits and was assessed during preliminary examination to be a live bomb, triggering heightened alert in the region. Police immediately secured the site, restricted public movement, and sought assistance from the Army.
A technical team of the Indian Army reached the spot and carried out a detailed assessment of the device. Drones were deployed to scan the object and its surroundings to evaluate risks before executing a controlled defusal operation in accordance with standard safety protocols. Officials confirmed that the bomb was safely defused on Wednesday without any damage or casualties.
Meanwhile, another suspicious cylindrical object recovered from the same village has been shifted to a secure location for further examination.
Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth said the Army’s swift and professional response reflects its strong commitment to ensuring civilian safety in critical situations.
Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious and avoid the area until all safety checks are fully completed.
