Jamshedpur, Oct 17: Police have arrested a criminal who fired shots to create panic in Millat Nagar, Jugsalai. The accused, identified as Arman alias Raj, 25, a resident of Habib Nagar, Mahto Para Road, is also an arms dealer.
City SP Kumar Shivashish informed mediamen at the SSP office on Thursday that a case under the Arms Act has been registered against Arman.
The arrest follows a tip-off that an individual was selling illegal firearms near the railway bridge on Parvati Ghat Road.
Acting on the information, sub-inspector Gautam Kumar of Jugsalai Police, along with his team, conducted a raid at the location.
On seeing the police, people present at the spot attempted to flee.
Arman was chased and apprehended, and a pistol was recovered from him. The weapon bore a brass star, the inscription “Made in USA,” and the words “Only for Supply” on the barrel.
Police stated that Arman had been involved in selling pistols for several months. He is currently being interrogated regarding the source of the firearms.
This arrest adds to the string of arms dealers previously caught and sent to jail by Jamshedpur police.
