“APAAR” to serve as unique student identifier nationwide

Ranchi, Oct 18: In a significant development following the Aadhar Card system, a new “Apaar ID” will be introduced for students across the country. This initiative aligns with the National Education Policy’s aim to establish “One Nation, One Student ID,” providing students with a 12-digit unique identifier.

To facilitate this, the Union Education Ministry has dispatched a letter to all states, outlining the plan. Subsequently, K Ravi Kumar, Secretary of the Department of School Education and Literacy, has corresponded with all District Education Officers (DEOs) and Directors of School Education (DSEs) in light of the Central Government’s directive.

The unique identifier for students will be known as the “Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR),” abbreviated as “Apaar.” The Apaar Card will assign a distinct identification number to each student, enabling them to utilize it throughout their educational journey, from primary to higher education. This system will provide comprehensive academic information about students.

In Jharkhand, where there is a notable increase in the number of students availing coaching, approximately 45.3% of students rely on both school education and tuition. The implementation of the “Apaar Card” is part of the broader “One Nation, One Student ID” initiative. Importantly, the consent of guardians is a mandatory requirement for students to obtain their Apaar Card.
