Anti-Naxal operations of Jharkhand Police have been successful: DGP

Jamshedpur, August 31: Director General of Police, Jharkhand, Rajeev Kumar on Sunday inaugurated an integrated surveillance research centre (ISRC) at the police control room in Sakchi. Zonal Inspector general MS Bhatia, deputy inspector general (Kolhan) Mohammed Nehaluddin were present on the occasion.

Speaking about the ISRC, Kumar said that this was the first of its kind high-tech facility that was introduced to check crime rate and road mishaps. It will help check the incidents of road mishaps and criminal acts like snatching, and assaulting commuters at public places.

The DGP has announced that similar ISRCs will be set up at Ranchi, Dhanbad, Bokaro and Hazaribag shortly. Notably, at present in all 25 CCTV cameras have been installed under the ISRC programme for covering the strategic locations of localities like Bistupur, Sakchi and Golmuri.

Additional 130 cameras will be installed so as to cover the entire city. As per the ISRC programme, the CCTV footage will be monitored from 6 am till 10 pm by a group of trained policemen at the PCR. On getting to know about any criminal incident on the CCTV footage, the police officials concerned will pass on the information to the concerned police station and also to the mobile `tigers’ so that the latter may swing into action and nab the culprits involved.

He also claimed that Naxal activities and violence have reduced by 35 percent in Jharkhand this year in comparison to last year. Speaking the naxal problem has subsided considerably in the state in comparison to last year. “”I do not claim that Maoist activities have been stopped up in the state. However, situation has improved to a great extent as we have been able to contain them,” he said. He urged the policemen to remain alert as the rebel outfits reply more on guerrilla tactics and can attack anywhere anytime.

There had been an improvement in containing the naxal activities in the state and several naxals were arrested following the anti-naxal operation launched by the police, he said.

Kumar said that during the Lok Sabha elections the Maoists ultras failed to spread unrest. Similarly during assembly elections, the police administration will ensure foolproof security. Barring a naxal-related incident in Dumka district, parliamentary polls held in three phases in Jharkhand four months ago were satisfactory, with the voting percentage registering an increase and no report of naxal incidents in the first two phases, Kumar said.

When questioned over the Tara Shahdeo-Ranjit Kohli episode, the DGP said the police have not neglected the case in any way. He said the police are looking into the case and would take necessary action against those whose involvement in the fraud. To a query about Jharkhand government’s decision to recommend the case to CBI, he said the victim had requested for it.
