Anti-Filariasis campaign in Jamshedpur from February 10-25

Jamshedpur: The Filariasis Eradication Campaign is set to begin on February 10 in East Singhbhum district. Under the Mass Drug Administration (MDA) program, residents will be provided with anti-filariasis medication. The Health Department, as the nodal agency, will spearhead the campaign with support from multiple departments, including Education, Panchayati Raj, Integrated Child Development, Social Welfare, and Supply. Medicines have been distributed to various blocks, and necessary instructions have been issued by the Deputy Commissioner after a District Coordination Committee meeting.

To ensure maximum outreach, health workers (ASHA) will distribute medicines at designated camps on the first day, followed by door-to-door administration from the second day onward.

For the campaign’s success, District Magistrate cum Deputy Commissioner Shri Ananya Mittal has urged citizens to participate actively. Filariasis, commonly known as elephantiasis, is a mosquito-borne disease that can be prevented through proper medication. Medicines will be administered at various booths from February 10 to February 25, 2025. On February 10, booths will be set up at all Anganwadi centers and schools in Bodam, Patamda, Potka, Golmuri, and Jugsalai to distribute medicines based on age.

Special guidelines have been issued: Pregnant women, individuals with severe illnesses, and children below the age of two should not take the medicine. From February 11, health workers will conduct door-to-door administration to ensure that every eligible individual receives the required dosage.

“I urge everyone to participate and take the prescribed medicines so that we can collectively eradicate filariasis from the region,” appealed Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal.
