Mail News Service

Jamshedpur, March 16: In a dramatic and closely fought election that kept the political circles of Adityapur on edge, Ankur Singh secured the post of Deputy Mayor of the Adityapur Municipal Corporation on Monday, defeating his nearest rival Archana Singh by a margin of just one vote.

The razor-thin victory turned the contest into one of the most talked-about municipal elections in the region in recent times.

The election witnessed intense political activity and speculation over the past few days, with both camps claiming confidence of support from the newly elected ward councillors.

The contest eventually turned into a political thriller as the final result hinged on a single decisive vote.

Ankur Singh, nephew of former Ichagarh MLA Arvind Singh alias Malkhan Singh, emerged victorious in the high-stakes battle against Archana Singh, wife of prominent local figure Manmohan Singh.

Both candidates were considered strong contenders, making the outcome unpredictable until the final count.

The polling process was conducted amid tight security arrangements, considering the sensitivity and political significance of the election.

As counting began, tension grew among supporters of both candidates, with every vote proving crucial.

When the final tally was announced, Ankur Singh secured victory by the narrowest possible margin, underscoring the decisive power of a single vote in democratic processes.

Reacting to his victory, Ankur Singh expressed gratitude to the ward councillors who supported him and said the mandate reflected the collective aspiration for development in Adityapur.

“This victory does not belong to me alone. It represents the trust and confidence of the councillors and the people who want to see Adityapur progress and grow,” he said.

Political observers believe several factors contributed to Singh’s win. The longstanding influence and organisational network of former MLA Malkhan Singh played a significant role in consolidating support.

A Narrow Victory

The election featured an intense head-to-head battle between Ankur Singh and his primary rival, Archana Singh. The final vote count revealed Singh’s narrow escape, underscoring the high stakes and competitive atmosphere of the Seraikela-Kharsawan district polls.

Peaceful Conduct and Celebration

Election officials confirmed that the voting process remained peaceful despite the high tension. The announcement of the single-vote lead triggered immediate celebrations among Singh’s supporters gathered at the counting center.

Following his win, Ankur Singh thanked his supporters and pledged to prioritize the development and welfare of Adityapur’s residents. “I will work with total dedication to serve the people who have placed their trust in me,” Singh stated shortly after the results.
