TV Narendran opens 30th annual Jamshedpur Flower Show

Technical sessions, sit and draw contest today

Jamshedpur: The 30th Annual Flower Show made Gopal Maidan in Jamshedpur come alive on Saturday. Tata Steel MD and CEO TV Narendran, Tata Steel VP (Corporate Services) Chanakya Choudhary, Tata Workers Union President R Ravi Prasad, Ruchi Narendran, the chairperson of Horticultural Society, Jamshedpur and officials from Horticultural Society. In his address, TV Narendran lauded the efforts of Horticultural Society to organise the show.

The theme for this year is �Art in Blooms� � A variety of exhibits including Flowers, Bonsai, Vegetables, Soil less culture, landscaping with potted plants and innovative landscape reflect the theme. Apart from this, there are large collection of garden-based products and technical sessions in line with the theme.

Competition arena is divided into two parts i.e. Amateur and Institutions; categories include potted seasonal flowers, perennial flowers, potted fruits and vegetables, potted foliage plants, cacti succulents, bonsai, cut flowers, bouquets, medicinal and aromatic plants etc.

There are 10 categories and 101 sections each in Amateur and Institutional groups; participation also by local farmers, other organisations and institutions. Exhibits will be judged by eminent horticultural specialists from across the country. There will be a special display arena in line with the theme of �Art in Blooms�.


Technical sessions will be held on 23rd and 24th December along with a special session on the cultivation of orchids and management of organic farming including a demo for preparation of manure at home, said an official of the Horticultural Society.

The organisers informed that there will be a �Sit and Draw� competition for school children on 23rd Dec� 18 from 9 am onwards. The idea is to create awareness in the young minds about importance of nature and greenery. We are expecting about 500 children from different schools in the city.

Separate arena for sale counters where rare species of plants and garden materials are available for display and sale. A total of 28 nursery stalls are selling plants and garden item. Additional 15 stalls will have garden equipment and garden accessories for display and sale.

There are separate arena for display and sale of organically grown vegetables and fruits by villagers staying near Jamshedpur. There are 9 Food Stalls to entice the taste buds of the visitors.

The evenings on 23rd and 24th Dec� 18 will be set ablaze by Cultural Events in which local school and college students will participate. The Cultural Event will start from 6 pm onwards.

A helpdesk is also available at the reception counter for any help and support required during the visit to arena. Wheelchairs are also available for convenience of old age visitors.

�The flower show is a treat to those who are interested in gardening and horticulture. There are many stalls that sell those rare mighty fragrant flowers, plants and flower seeds to the garden lovers. The experts would also give professional advice to the visitors about garden styles and planting during technical sessions,� said an official of Horticultural Society of Jamshedpur.

A mascot for the flower show titled �Phoolon ki kahaani, Phoolon ki zubaani� has also been put up at the show.

The closing and the valedictory session is scheduled on 25th Dec� 18 at 4 pm and Anand Sen, President (TQM & Steel Business), Tata Steel will be present as the chief guest.
