Jamshedpur, July 5: CII organized the 11^th edition of Manufacturing Conclave East with the theme of Future Ready to Future Proof Manufacturing at a hotel in Adityapur on Friday.

Eminent leaders from industry deliberated on emerging technologies and their potential to future proof the manufacturing sector. With a focus on competitiveness, inclusiveness and sustainability, the conclave aimed to future proof the manufacturing sector to be future ready.

Kamal Bali, President and Managing Director, Volvo Group India Pvt Ltd graced the 11th edition of CII Manufacturing Conclave East. He stated “Admist Middle East war zone and other geopolitical challenges, other countries are experiencing a decline in the GDP growth rate and in this havoc, “India is in the spotlight as it has achieved a GDP growth of 8.2% this year. If India continues to achieve 8% growth rate for 20+ years, it would be able to lift millions of Indians out of poverty as it has a low per capita growth”. Moving forward, he discussed few of the many factors that is helping and will continue to help India in attaining the position of 3rd largest economy in the world. He said, “The recipe to move ahead is Adaptability, Flexibility and Free footed”. He also shared 8 mega trends which if followed rigorously will help to boost the present $600 billion (2024) to $6 trillion by 2047. While making such a remarkable statement he expressed his firm faith in the Indian manufacturing sector. Lastly, he concluded by stating “Sustainability is not an option but an imperative”.

Suvendra Behera, Chairman, CII Eastern Region & Vice Chairman & Managing Director, RSB Transmissions (I) Ltd said ‘’Manufacturing sector contribute 16 -17 % of India’s GDP with a target to contribute to atleast 25% of country’s GDP by 2025. He majorly expressed his concern about “Braindrain” where intelligent minds are exiting India to work for foreign nations. If good skill sets and training centres are established here in India, the skill set will boon and will get youngster to work for nation.

Ranjot Singh, Chairman, CII Jharkhand State Council & Managing Director, Emdet Jamshedpur Private Limited inaugurated the session with his opening remarks. He said, “By 2030, India will become the leading manufacturing hub.” He also stated that “The Eastern Region is a cornerstone of India’s industrial prowess and cannot be overlooked in the journey to global manufacturing leadership. He also said CII can create a conductive and collaborative environment by taking up matters that are of utmost importance in the fast-pacing economy.

Ramphal Nehra, Chairman, CII ER Manufacturing Sub Committee & Director & Plant Manager, Tata Cummins Pvt Ltd said, “Manufacturing is one of the most important pillars of our country”. He stated that government schemes and initiatives are helping our nation in experiencing a dynamic growth. He also quoted, “Make in India is a wide scope for investment and manufacturing”.

Ujjal Chakraborti, Immediate Past Chairman, CII Jharkhand State Council & Managing Director, Jamshedpur Continuous Annealing and Processing Company Pvt Ltd said, Jharkhand with its abundant mineral resources and strategic location has carved a niche for itself in India’s manufacturing sector, particularly in the steel, automotive and automotive components industry. He also mentioned about Jharkhand’s GSDP which is heavily influenced by its industrial output. The state GSDP grew at a rate of 7.5% in recent years, with the manufacturing sector being a key contributor. Jamshedpur’s automotive manufacturing facilities are among the largest in the country, supported by a network of ancillaries industries.

Ravindra Kulkarni, Vice Chairman, CII Jamshedpur Zonal Council & Head – Jamshedpur Plant, Tata Motors Ltd emphasized on India’s commitment to sustainability, aiming for carbon neutrality by 2070. He highlighted the pivotal role of MSMEs as the backbone of the Indian economy and emphasized digital transformation, data analytics, and robotics as key drivers of progress. He added, “Collaboration among policymakers, industrialists, and stakeholders is essential for advancing the industry with the focus on the need for collective efforts in shaping a better future.

Prithish Chowdhary, Co-Chairman, CII ER Manufacturing Sub Committee and Dy Managing Director, Titagarh Rail System Ltd stated “India’s growth is nothing but India going back to its former glory.”

The 11th edition of the Manufacturing Conclave East, hosted by CII on July 5, 2024,  focused on preparing the manufacturing industry for future challenges and opportunities under the theme “Future Ready to Future Proof Manufacturing.” Participants benefited from a variety of sessions covering crucial topics such as realigning to global value chains, adopting future technologies for intelligent manufacturing, and promoting inclusive and sustainable manufacturing practices. Networking opportunities with industry leaders, policymakers, and experts also provided avenues for forging partnerships and exploring new business prospects. The conclave aimed to equip participants with actionable strategies and knowledge to navigate a rapidly evolving manufacturing landscape effectively.
