Amid rising temperatures, Parents’ Association demand change in timing of Jamshedpur schools

Jamshedpur, April 16: Growing concerns over extreme heat have prompted parents in Jamshedpur and across East Singhbhum district to demand a change in school timings. The Jamshedpur Abhibhawak  Sangh (Parents’ Association) has submitted a memorandum to Hemant Soren, along with the Deputy Commissioner and the District Education Superintendent, urging immediate intervention.

According to the memorandum, temperatures in the district have already reached 40 to 41 degrees Celsius, with forecasts predicting a further rise of 3 to 4 degrees in the coming days. Parents have expressed serious concern that schools currently operate until 1:30 PM, which coincides with the peak heat hours.

Dr. Umesh Kumar, President of Jamshedpur Abhibhawak  Sangh, stated that the intense heat and heatwave-like conditions are adversely affecting children’s health. He pointed out that students face considerable discomfort while commuting to and from school under harsh sunlight, increasing the risk of dehydration and illness.

The association has proposed that all government and private schools shift to morning hours, suggesting classes be held from 6:30 AM to 11:30 AM. They believe this adjustment would help protect children from extreme weather without affecting their studies.
