Jamshedpur, Aug 29: A fierce encounter broke out between security forces and ultras of�People Liberation Front of India (PLFI)�here in Majhgaon on Saturday. The encounter broke out at 6 am when troops of 209 CoBRA and Jharkhand Police were out for search and destroy operation (SADO) in Majhgaon.
The encounter took place as the police got a tip off that a squad of banned outfit People Liberation Front of India (PLFI) was active in Majhgaon, they accompanied by a battalion started an anti-insurgency operation.
According to police, as the operation began, the ultras started firing on the police and paramilitary forces, who retaliated with a heavier fire power. As a result of which the rebels fled.
During the search, the police recovered one AK-47 rifle and arms and ammunition were recovered from the site.
Meanwhile the administration has increased police patrolling on the bordering areas connecting to West Bengal and has also deployed adequate numbers of paramilitary personnel on areas potential to rebel attack.
“The combing operation had begun here from wee hours of the day. The para-military forces were combing the area in the jungle while carrying out the operation. As the forces were busy in combing operations, they were suddenly sprayed with bullets, leading them to run for cover. Soon after, the paramilitary forces had retaliated by returning the fire,” said a police official.
�Every effort will be made to maintain law and order and to ensure security of the people. This time all security forces have also been alerted to remain vigilant, particularly against IEDs and landmines,” said another official.
Sources informed that the mobility of the police has prevented the extremists from carrying out any violent activity in past few days in the entire Kolhan. All the police stations in the three districts of the division including East and West Singhbhum and Seraikela Kharswan have been asked to beef up the security and keep a vigil at the bordering areas.
Sources informed that the police have decided to ensure strict vigil and deploy additional security forces in the fringe areas. �Security has been beefed up in the area and they were keeping strict vigil on movement of the Naxalites. The plan is to keep a tab on the camps being operated by ultras,� said another official.
