Jamshedpur: All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) leaders staged a demonstration before the office of the general manager of Jharkhand State Electricity Board at Bistupur to demand regular power supply to the various blocks of East Singhbhum.
Leading the agitators, the MLA of Jugsalai Ramchandra Sahis said a large number of people number several lakhs were compelled to live in misery as a result of frequent and prolonged power cuts. He said the electricity department should fix timings for power cuts so that people do not remain clueless on the duration and timing of power cuts.
�The department should take certain steps to make sure that people get timely information about power cuts in advance. The announcement for power cuts should be made through newspapers and public address system (PAS) if the duration of power cut is more than one hour or for the entire day. This will at least not lead to a haphazard situation,� said Sahis.
AJSU leaders met the GM of JSEB, power supply division, Jamshedpur, and handed over a memorandum to him demanding fulfillment of several demands aimed at regularizing power supply and power cuts.
The party activists raised slogans against the department and alleged that the department was sitting over the pleas of the people who badly wanted improvement in the power supply. They said the people were now fed up of the power crisis which had taken over the state in the peak summer season.
Among those present during the agitation programme included Swapan Kumar Singhdeo, Kanhaiyya Singh, Babur Khan and Sunil Mahato.
