Jamshedpur, March 21 : Activists of Ajsu today locked the Kolhan University’s branch office on the premises of Graduate School College for Women in Sakchi. Students led by an activist Hemant Pathak locked the gates to protest alleged corruption in the university. They raised slogans and demanded a better administrative system . Students also submitted a 17- point memorandum to the Kolhan University vice chancellor Shukla Mahanty.
Students in their protest also demanded that examinations should be held without delay with reference to the late UG first semester examinations that will be held tomorrow as compared to December as announced by the university earlier. The students also demanded that the university should organise regular sporting events in every three months.
�Although the results of different boards� school level examinations have reaffirmed that the standard of education is quite high in the steel city but the same standard is not at all maintained in the university level education system. As a result, every year large number of students is migrating to other states for the value added education. Earlier the exudation was restraint up to degree level courses but that phenomenon gradually changes. However the reason behind does not require any further clarification. Lack of adequate colleges with proper infrastructures and seats for the subjects in demand,� said a student.
Ram Gyan Yadav, a resident of Telco area whose son passed the recently held secondary examination with flying colour marks, said that the standard of degree level education in the goverment colleges are rapidly deteoriating. Even the standards of vocational courses are not appropriate. In contrast to the state of higher education, the standards of education in unrecognised schools are reasonably high.
However a student of vocational course, on condition of anonymity, said that the standard of coaching, especially the practical facilities are not at all up to the mark. So after considering all possibilities, it is advisable to leave to Delhi, Pune, Chennai and Bangalore. Though it is an expensive affair, but despite all odds, there the student will definitely get a proper atmosphere of education.
