Jamshedpur, July 30: East Singhbhum district Congress president Vijay Khan today announced that the state Congress president and former Parliamentarian Dr Ajoy Kumar would contest the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections from Jamshedpur West seat. He said Kumar had the capability and popularity to defeat the BJP wherever he chose to contest.

Dr Ajoy Kumar is a highly popular leader, whether be it within the Congress or among the people of Jamshedpur. He has been leading the organization for the last many years. We have conducted a survey among party works and the people in Jamshedpur West constituency and found Dr Ajoy Kumar as the top contender for the ticket. The party has won an assembly by-poll and Lok Sabha election under his leadership. This is why the organization has decided to field him from this seat, Khan said while addressing a press meet at Tilak Pustakalaya.

Asked about Banna Guptas claim for the Jamshedpur West ticket, Khan said the party would soon take a decision in this regard. The party will only give tickets to winning candidates, he said.

Khan assailed senior party leader and former Ghatsila MLA Pradip Kumar Balmuchu for working against the organization. Congress party has suffered enough damage in Jharkhand due to Pradip Balmuchu who works as an agent for the BJP. The party suffered numerous defeats in many Assembly and Lok Sabha elections under his leadership in the past several years. The party workers are fed up of his anti-party activities in the same way as the people of our country are fed up with the terrorists.

Khan demanded that the party higher-ups should show Balmuchu the doors as he had failed to live up to the expectations of the party, especially the dedicated and old members of the organization.

Khan said the party would initiate disciplinary action against Balmuchu and NSUI leader Parvinder Singh for holding a press conference at the party office recently and speaking against the state party chief.

Balmuchu had targeted Dr Ajoy Kumar and claimed that the party workers were not ready to contest the assembly polls in Jharkhand under Kumars leadership. He had said that the party wants a full-time state president and not a part-timer like Kumar.

Khan was accompanied by senior leader Kamal Kishore Agrawal and disciplinary committee member Riyazuddin Khan and Brajendra Tiwary.
