Ranchi, October 19: Senior IPS Officer Ajay Kumar Singh has been appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Jharkhand. Singh, who had previously held the DGP position in the state, was serving as the Chairman and Managing Director of the Jharkhand Police Housing Corporation Limited before this appointment. His selection follows a directive from the Election Commission, which ordered the immediate removal of acting DGP Anurag Gupta.

Ajay Kumar Singh, a 1989-batch IPS officer, has been given the DGP role once again after Neeraj Sinha’s retirement. Singh had previously held key positions like Director General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and served as SP in various districts, including Hazaribagh and Dhanbad, as well as in several districts of Bihar.

Anurag Gupta’s removal came on the Election Commission’s instruction, which called for a senior DGP-level officer to assume the post ahead of the Jharkhand Assembly elections. The state government was asked to comply with the order by 7 pm today, and Ajay Kumar Singh was subsequently appointed to the role.

Anurag Gupta had been appointed acting DGP by the state government in July.
