AIADA: State Government to develop prospects of defence items in Adityapur

To organise Vendor Development Programme in December

Jamshedpur, Nov. 20: Similar on the lines of Momentum Jharkhand, the State Government in partnership with Adityapur Small Industries Association (ASIA) is gearing up to organisea mega event on December 19 and 20 at Adityapur Auto Cluster.

The event titled Vendor Development Programmein the Railway & Defence Sectoris designed for the development of industries located in Adityapur Industrial Area. Several high profile industrialists, officers of both the sectors will participate in the event. The event will be led by Chief Minister Raghubar Das.

Adityapur Industrial Area Development Authority ( AIADA) recently embarked on a plan to carry study on prospects of defencemanufacturing items in Adityapur Development area.

A senior official of AIADA said they are carrying study of prospects. The defence budget for procurement is 40 billion US dollar. If 40 per cent of it is supplied by indigeneous companies we can avoid dependability from outside. Morever, the government’s new Defence Procurement Policy ( DPP) which has been designed to suit some very basic needs of Indian Army gives greater flexibility to domestic industry for participating in defence order.

Industrialist A K Sinha said that now Adityapur Industrial Area has fully grown and more than 600 units have directly or indirectly making components for Tata Motors and other Tata Group of Industries located at Jamshedpur. Whenever there is slow demand of automobile vehicles, the quantum of order on ancillaries located in Adityapur is slashed. This situation has occurred this year also.

The slow demand is due to poor infrastructure especially the poor condition of road.

There has been lapses in our part i.e. entrepreneurs of Adityapur, Jamshedpur as we have never thought of developing item for Defence, Railway etc. We understand that there is good scope of developing spares, equipment & other ancillaries item for various ordinance factories located in the country. Since the local ancillaries are basically ancillary supplier of Tata Motors, Telcon, Tata Steel, TRF, Tinplate, Lafarge, Cummins, Timken, they are quality conscious and can also provide competitive rate, noted Sinha.

It may be noted that the sprawling Adityapur Industrial Area houses 1200 units- including 11 large-scale, 64 small scale and 166 tiny industries. A few important industries that has global presence are Usha Martin Group, RSB Group, Tata Steel Growth Shop(TGS) etc., too situated in this industrial belt, situated in Seraikela-Kharsawan. There are 20 industries, which export its products to the USA, Australia and other European countries.
