After matric results, race begins for intermediate admissions

Jamshedpur: After the results, race has now begun for the admissions in the intermediate colleges. Since the performances of the students in the matric exams in the district have remain improved in compare to last year, chances are that the rush would be more. With matriculation results out, admissions are keeping students on their toes.

Several colleges have declared the dates for intermediate admissions. Jamshedpur Women�s College has started the issuing forms, while Jamshedpur Co-operative College, Jamshedpur Worker�s College, Graduate School College for Women, LBSM College and Abdul Bari Memorial College from May 4.

According to information, concerned about rising demands of students and rush last year several colleges have increased seats in commerce and science streams. Students from almost all the colleges were demanding a hike in the seats in their respective institutions.

Nalini Sinha, a student leader who last year led a delegation of students of Jamshedpur Womens College and met college management demanding an increase of about 100 seats in all the streams in the intermediate, said that this year the students would get admission with much ease.

College authorities informed that since Jamshedpur Women�s College and Jamshedpur Co-operative College are the favourites the seats available in these colleges are 2100 and 1800 respectively. Women�s college will ensure direct admission with 70 per cent marks while Cooperative College will give direct admission with 65 per cent marks.

�This time we have made elaborate arrangements to make sure that the students seeking admission get their seats without any difficulty. But like always the students would have to fulfill the cut-off marks to get stream of their choice,� said an official of , Jamshedpur Cooperative College.

In all the three streams, students securing 60 to 65 per cent will get direct admission while those below that will be selected on merit. Apart from the regular streams science, arts and commerce, the students can choose from array of vocational courses being started in the colleges in the city this year.

The college authorities said they would also introduce a noble method to check absenteeism of students. It will be mandatory for the students taking admission in the college to submit two self-addressed envelopes so that the college authorities could write to their parents in case of frequent absenteeism.

On the other hands students� organisation are also in demand to increase the faculty strength in the intermediate colleges. They said that appointments of new teachers are essential to improve the academic scenario. Students� organisations like ABVP, NSUI Sanyukt Chatra Sangh are waging the cause. These organisations are also planning to launch a sustained campaign against the Ranchi University.

Despite disappointing results, especially in science, some once-bitten students are not twice shy. They will again opt for science. But for others, humanities and commerce are their best bet.

Karim City College aspirants are showing interest in zoology, mathematics and physics. College authorities will decide on the last date to give forms to undergraduate aspirants.
