Administration to implement strict safety norms for cracker sales in Jamshedpur

Decides common sale points during Diwali

Jamshedpur: District administration is following strict implementation of crackers norms at common sale points during Diwali in city.

ď We have formed team to conduct surprise inspections at all the common sale points of crackers to ensure that fire safety norms are adhered strictly. We will also ensure that crackers are only sold in the designated common sale points and not in residential areas,Ē said SDO DhalbhumMadhvi Mishra.

The directive assumes significance as the district administration would be issuing temporary license (sale for nearly a week) to over 300 applicants this week. In September, nine persons were died in a fire mishap in an illegal cracker factory at Baharagora.

The common sale points identified by the district administration include Aambagan ground in Sakchi which has the maximum number of cracker sellers license (over 80) and G Town ground in Bistupur (over 60). Other common sale points include BaridihDurga puja ground (Baridih), Gandhi Maidan in Mango, Ram Mandir ground (Sonari), , Circus Maidan (Golmuri), Sunday market (Birsanagar), BurmaminesDurga puja ground (Burmamines), BhalubhasaHarijan School ground (Sitaramdera) and SidhuKanhu ground (Bagbera) Ganesh Puja ground (Kadma), R P Patel High School ground (Jugsalai), N Type Durga puja ground and SabujKalyanSangha ground (both in Telco).

An official informed that temporary licence to retailers of firecrackers identified on the basis of lists prepared by the three local urban bodies- Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee ( JNAC), Mango Notified Area Committee ( MNAC) and Jugsalai Municipality and reports of circle officer of Jamshedpur block.

According to him , they would ensure that proper safety measures are taken by the retailers like sand buckets, sufficient water and fire extinguishers at the venue of sale. He said that no objection certificate ( NoC) would be given to the retailers only after proper verification. He also promised to conduct surprise inspection at the sale areas.

Meanwhile, with an aim to check illegal selling of the fire crackers in the city the district administration has decided to take firm measures in this regard, including cancellation of the licence of the vendors found guilty of the crime. Taking lesson from the past incidents the district administration is also likely to constitute a team of the administrative and police officials who will make surprise visit to the market to get hold of the shops selling fire crackers illegally, if any.

According to district administration officials the police have been asked to keep an eye in the Jugsalai area for, it is the most vulnerable zone as far illegal transaction of fire crackers are concerned. ďJugsalai for years has been the center for dubious dealings of fire crackers and by rough estimates transaction worth crores of rupees takes place every year in the that particular pocket,Ē informed a senior vigilance official.

ďLast year the administration maintained a tough posture and did not let the vendors to open a shop in the residential colonies and the latter were forced to set up makeshift shops on Mango, NH-33. This year too, the scene will remain same, more or less,Ē conceded, a human rights activist known for his crusade against selling of the fire crackers in populated areas.
