Administration to launch voter awareness drive

Jamshedpur, Nov 7: Mobin Khan was the lone candidate to file nomination as an independent from Jamshedpur West constituency while MLA Ramchandra Sahis along with others purchased nomination papers on the first day of nomination on Friday, Nov 7.

Elections for the second phase are scheduled on December 2, Tuesday from 7 am to 3 pm. For the same DC cum District Election Officer Dr. Amitabh Kaushal addressed a press conference at the Collectorate office on Friday evening. He said since model code of conduct came into effect 12 cases have come into light of the administration while case was registered against JVM and Mahila Jagriti Manch at Bistupur Police Station.

DC further informed that to make voters aware of the polls the administration will move forward with the election commission orders and would launch awareness drive at the earliest so that maximum number of people can come out to cast their vote on December 2.

Within the next two-three days administration will order the management of several companies to give leave to the workers and staffs on the polling day. DC also said that the candidates have been advised not to keep cash more than Rs 50,000 and the various business houses doing transaction of more than Rs 50,000 will have to inform the administrative officer of the district. He also informed that the Star campaigner can keep maximum of Rs 1 lakh with him/her.

According to Dr. Kaushal call centre will be operational within the next 2-3 days while the mobile numbers of various officials related with the election work will be made public through media so that the common people can also inform the administration if they feel any untoward incident is about to take place.

Also present at the press conference, Observer related with the voters awareness campaign Reeta Shukla also appealed the voters to come out in large numbers and cast their vote.

SSP Amol V Homkar present at the press meet said that the police administration is all set to carry out the election process in peace and transparent manner. At the press meet ADC Dr. Lal Mohan Mahato, SDO Prem Ranjan and other administration officials were present.

On the first day of nomination one candidate filed nomination while 23 others purchased nominations papers today for the six Assembly constituencies falling under the Jamshedpur parliamentary constituency in the East Singhbhum district.

While four papers were purchased from Potka reserved (ST) constituency, three papers were purchased for Jugsalai reserved (SC), seven papers were purchased for general constituency of Jamshedpur West and five for Jamshedpur East (general) at the district collectorate in Jamshedpur.

Prominent candidates who purchased their papers today include sitting BJP MLA Meneka Sardar from Potka, Surya Singh Besra (Jharkhand People’s Party), sitting Ajsu MLA Ramchandra Sahis and former minister and four times MLA Dulal Bhuiyan from Congress, sitting MLA and state agriculture minister Banna Gupta (Jamshedpur West).

Kunal Sarangi son of former minister Dinesh Sarangi from JMM for Baharagora Assembly constituency who will be contesting for the first time.

Filing of nominations for the Assembly constituencies in the second phase will end on November 11.

The scrutiny of papers will be held on November 15 while last date for withdrawal of nominations is November 17.

East Singhbhum deputy commissioner-cum- district electoral officer for the district, Amitabh Kaushal said that symbols for candidates will be allotted on November 17.

“12 cases of code of conduct violations have been reported in the district out of which FIRs have been lodged in two cases so far in Sakchi police station for violation of section 144 under CrPC,” said the deputy commissioner.

Incidentally, the FIRs have been filed against JVM district president Firoz khan.
