Jamshedpur: State Urban Development and Housing Department has issued a directive to the district administration to evaluate the performance of Durga Puja pandals under various urban civic bodies and felicitate top three of them along with rewards to promote cleanliness.
In view of the directive, the sub divisional officer of Dhalbhum Suraj Kumar today convened a meeting of officials of various departments and civic bodies. It was decided to promote cleanliness at puja venues by asking puja committees to ensure their participation in the performance based on general cleanliness. It was also decided to encourage hundreds of puja committee volunteers to promote cleanliness. Visitors of puja pandals should also be included in the campaign.
The SDO said a merit list of puja pandals will be prepared based on various cleanliness standards and their implementation. A public function will be organized to felicitate the top three performing puja committees on 15th October.
Three other puja committees will be given consolation prizes along with cleanliness certificates. The presidents of such puja committees will also be felicitated on the occasion.
The benchmarks set for the puja committees include use of eco friendly bags in place of polythene bags, segregation of waste coming out of pandals, proper disposal of biodegradable waste, handing over non-biodegradable waste to local civic bodies or Jusco every day, making arrangements for dust bins on behalf of puja pandals, putting up hoardings to make public appeal for cleanliness, arranging for spittoons at puja venues and immersing idols at the venues earmarked by the district administration.
The SDO said that for the purpose of evaluating the performance of puja committees, an evaluation team comprising a nodal officer and a minimum number of four members will be set up soon. The team will visit puja pandals from Saptami till Vijaya Dashmi.
