Jamshedpur, July 6: Following a recent incident of ragging in the hostel of MGM Medical College, a meeting of the Anti-Ragging Committee was convened on Friday to address the issue. In the meeting, four prefects of the hostel were suspended from their positions for a period of three days. Additionally, instructions were issued to investigate the accused students and register an FIR against them if found guilty.
Present at the meeting were Dr. KN Singh, the college principal, SDO Parul Singh, DSP Patamda, and other members of the anti-ragging committee. The suspended prefects were questioned regarding their failure to report the incident promptly to the college administration when the ragging occurred.
SDO Parul Singh emphasized the seriousness of the issue, noting that this was the third reported incident of ragging, and instructed the college administration to promptly repair the non-functional CCTV cameras on campus. This directive was issued to ensure that evidence could be gathered effectively in future incidents.
Earlier, the Anti Ragging Cell (ARC) had alerted the college administration to a complaint of ragging in the male hostel, including photographic evidence. This prompted the Anti-Ragging Committee meeting, where it was revealed that former students were unlawfully occupying hostel space meant for current interns, leading to overcrowding and facilitating incidents of ragging.
To address these issues, the committee decided to evict former students from the intern hostel within a week and relocate current intern students there. Furthermore, strict measures were imposed, including closing the college hostel gate by 10:00 PM to enhance security and prevent unauthorized access.
