SAFE, Tata Steel organises webinar on emotional well-being for students

Jamshedpur, Jan 8: SAFE (Safety Awareness for Everyone) in association with Tata Steel today organised a webinar on ‘Emotional Well-being of Students’ of schools in and around Jamshepdur.

The webinar attended by over 1200 participants covering majority of schools in and around Jamshedpur, featured eminent personalities giving tips on how to cope with the situation. Students shared their experience during pandemic situation, how it impacted them and how they are trying to cope with it.

SAFE has been pioneering safety awareness among youngsters over the years. In this pandemic period, while all are affected, the emotional well-being of school children, students, teachers, and parents is a crucial topic which needs more attention.

Varsha Daga, Member of SAFE, welcomed the participants who joined the webinar and set the context for the proceedings.

Moushumi Das, Principal, SDSM School, detailed intervention methods adopted in handling the various anxieties and uncertainties arising in students minds and how they overcame the situation by including all the stakeholders in each step. She emphasised on emotional well-being of teachers also.

Jyoti Pandey, Founder of Purple Hues, presided as Guest of Honour and stressed on the need for looking at mental health as holistic health. Through narrating stories, she pointed out that it is important to understand on how to respond to challenges and choosing our actions. These challenges and many others are going to shape up our future, she added. The key is to learn from failures and not repeat them- the smartness for future, she opined. She also suggested to change the perspective with which we look at life.

Dr T N Singh, Director IIT Patna, Chief Guest, highlighted the importance of looking at the problem in newer ways and newer fashion. He encouraged the youngsters to be geared up and prepared for facing new challenges. He advised them to be effective and efficient, control emotions, avoid conflicts. He advised positive thinking and positive ways to interpret things, accepting all the challenges in positive way.

This was followed by an open discussion and QA session, where the experts clarified doubts.

Ruchi Narendran, Chairperson, SAFE, in her concluding remarks summarised the takeaways from the session. She advised students to be realistic. Problems can’t be solved unless they are not acknowledged. She appreciated and thanked the School and SAFE Clubs for effectively intervening and making students cope with the stressful times.

Pradeep Kumar Yadav, Manager Contactor safety, proposed vote of thanks to conclude the session.
